U.S. Supreme Court Delays Execution
The U.S. Supreme Court delayed the execution of a condemned murderer until it could decide whether a judge should hear his claims prosecutors didn’t turn over evidence, made misleading statements and improperly prepared witnesses.
Abu-Ali Abdur’Rahman, 51, was to die by lethal injection early Wednesday for a 1986 Nashville murder.
The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in February ruled against a hearing. Defense lawyers argue their claims should be reviewed under a different federal rule.
If the high court decides not to allow a judge to hear his appeal, the stay of execution will be lifted.
