Experts Get a Crack At Long-Closed Vault

From Times Wire Reports

A bank vault locked shut for decades has been sent to a convention of expert safecrackers in Nevada who say they can open the rusted, century-old box.

The two-chamber safe sat in the basement of the First State Bank of Eagle Point until 1954. It was donated last year to a museum in Eagle Point, Ore., by a collector who only had one of the combinations.

Organizers of the Safe and Vault Technicians Convention in Reno asked for a crack at the safe.

There’s little secret about what’s in the top chamber: a Wells Fargo bank bag filled with paper, put there as a joke. It is unknown what’s in the bottom vault.
