Company Agrees to Fine Over Dumped Fuel
A building materials company agreed Tuesday to pay civil fines totaling $47,700 for allegedly dumping 200 gallons of diesel fuel into a pond at its Lockwood Valley site. The spill resulted in the death of 30 ducks, authorities said.
Pacific Custom Materials, which operates a mine that processes clay for highway surfaces, was accused of the dumping after a county inspector noticed a sheen on the company’s pond in the 17000 block of East Lockwood Valley Road in late 1998.
The Glendale-based company didn’t admit wrongdoing.
