Festival to Celebrate Multiculturalism

A multicultural festival today will celebrate the city’s ethnic diversity, organizers said.

The Global Village: A Multicultural Festival will include a food court, live music, dancing, entertainment and a marketplace. The event, sponsored by the city and the Irvine Multicultural Assn., will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Irvine Civic Center, Alton Parkway and Harvard Avenue.

Cost is $5 for adults, and $3 for seniors and children ages 2 to 12.

About 30% of Irvine’s 148,000 residents are Asian and Pacific Islanders. An estimated 10% are of Iranian descent and 7% are Latino.
