Panel Seeks Input on Divvying Up $80 Million
The Los Angeles County Community Development Commission is seeking public comment on a plan that details how the county will allocate $80 million in federal housing and community development funds.
Residents may submit written comments on the 2002-03 Action Plan, which proposes how the county should spend the money on a range of services, including child care, senior programs, home buyer assistance, home repair services, graffiti removal, and street and sewer repairs.
The money will be used in unincorporated areas of the county and in 48 cities.
Besides taking written comments for a month, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing May 28, the day it is scheduled to vote on the plan.
The draft and hearing comments then go to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for review and final approval.
Funding for selected programs begins July 1, with amendments and additional funding possible throughout the year, CDC spokesman Calvin Naito said.
Residents can view the plan at CDC headquarters in Monterey Park, at specified libraries in each of the five supervisorial districts, and on the commission’s Web site (www.lacdc.org/action_plan2001/ index.htm). The Web site also includes a list of public libraries that have copies of the plan.
