Make-Up’s Bowing Out With Bowie

Club Make-up is going out in a blaze of glammed-up glory with a celebration of the 30th-anniversary of David Bowie’s “Ziggy Stardust” album Saturday at the El Rey Theatre. The monthly L.A. dance club, which ushered in a new era in fashion and music, is saying sayonara with the Bowie blowout. But promoter Joseph Brooks says it’s the first of many farewell shows, with plans in the works for periodic mega Make-up parties. We sure hope so.

Daddy’s/Well owner Craig Trager has gotten his hands on Jolly Jack’s, a Santa Monica bar he’s transforming into a new spot called the Last Call, which is scheduled to open in September. He also leased the old Olive location, with plans to reopen it as the Fairfax in early 2003. Business at the Well’s been swell. In recent weeks, the Sunset Boulevard bar’s attracted rockers such as Incubus and the Flaming Lips. And speaking of flaming lips, we also spotted actor Colin Farrell sucking face with a sexy model at the Well.... Former House of Blues talent buyer John Pantle has signed on with the Knitting Factory, which should mean good things for the Hollywood nightclub....

Jeepers creepers! Siousxie and the Banshees play the Hollywood Palladium on Aug. 11, and we hear the Garden of Eden’s getting jiggy with a new Wednesday night jazz series.... Liquid Kitty’s gonna purr this Sunday as rockabilly blues crooner Jake LaBotz lights up the swanky Westside bar.... Gary Richards, the host of the Downtown LA Standard’s Sunday Service (see Club Review, this page) says he’s got plans to promote a Thursday night dance club at Ivar, a new club being renovated by the folks behind Nacional (formerly Fuel) and Tengu.... And scenestress Pamita Neptuna tells me her all-girl Cheap Trick cover band, Cheap Trix, is making its debut at the Garage in Silver Lake on Aug. 31. We surrender....

My favorite surfer/drag queen, Tom Kat, and his glitter rock band Sex With Lurch, is throwing a Beach Party Babylon on Aug. 20 at the Troubadour.
