Regarding “Lazy, Hazy Music Days,” by Sorina Diaconescu, July 27:

Once again, we’re ignored! Gary Mandell of Boulevard Music hosts a wildly successful concert series in Culver City. Every Thursday evening, hundreds of people pack the courtyard of Culver City Hall to enjoy swing, western, blues, Cajun, Latin jazz and other wonderful performances. The concerts and parking are free, and the 7 p.m. start ensures great weather. It’s a fabulous way to spend an evening.

Actually, perhaps I’m not sorry your reporter ignored us. Culver City is the best-kept secret of L.A.’s Westside ... we’re a very special town. We locals like it that way!

Diaconescu neglected to mention what is different about the “Summer Nights” event than the three others she attended: It’s at an art gallery! And the Geffen Contemporary is free that night, and in fact stays open for an hour after the music, et al., stops.

What a unique experience: jazz, boutique wines and microbrews, and modern art all in an evening. Follow that with a quick stop to one of the sushi or yakitori shops within a block, and you’ve got a night that truly makes you want to sing “I Love L.A.”!
