Police arrested a 15-year-old in the shooting death of a Ft. Bragg soldier whose wife also has been charged in the slaying.

The name of the teenager, charged Friday with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, has not been released.

Army Maj. David Shannon, 40, a Special Operations soldier, was shot July 23 as he slept. His wife, Joan, 35, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Police said Shannon was killed for insurance and military benefits.

The slaying was the fifth domestic-related killing linked to the base since June 11. Four Ft. Bragg wives have been killed, allegedly by their husbands, and officials say they are looking at the cases to determine if the stress of military life was a contributing factor.
