She Just Keeps Coming Back for Seconds

Share

Although she has been second more than twice as often as she has won, Big On Charm has made herself a nice living.

A 5-year-old California-bred mare owned and bred by Double Bar S Ranch and trained by W.G. Baber, Big On Charm has earned more than $227,000 in her 31-race career. She’ll try to add to her bankroll when she makes her first start of 2002 in tonight’s eighth, a $12,250 allowance at 350 yards.

Idle since Nov. 23, the daughter of Sir Alibi has won six times but has been runner-up on 13 occasions. One of her seconds came against Corona Kool in the Charger Bar Handicap on Jan. 19, 2001.

Joe Badilla Jr., the last jockey to have won with the mare (last Aug. 25), takes the call and she will break from post two in the field of five. Rounding out the lineup are Proudest Goddess, Imjumpn, Blushing Lady Bug and Blue Grass Bounce.

Proudest Goddess, who will leave from the inside post, is the only member of the field with a win this year.

The picks: 1. A Dash Of Apollo. 2. Cee Miss Tizzy. 3. A Red Hot Star. 4. Frisco Country. 5. Shenoshezroyal. 6. Icey Gambler. 7. Spit Happens. 8. Big On Charm. 9. Baby Got Bac.

Four! Use A Dash Of Apollo, Traffic Attraction and Daring Intention in the first, single Cee Me Tizzy in the second, use A Red Hot Star and Dashin Mystery Man in the third and BCR Grab The Cash, Frisco Country and Amender in the fourth.

Shots in the dark: Californias Chick is a new face from Idaho in the fifth who gets a top rider in Alex Bautista. Randi’s Man is a win type (15 for 37) making his first start of 2002 in the sixth.
