City Weighs Lawsuit Over Planned Evictions

From Times Staff Reports

The city of Los Angeles is considering suing owners of several apartment buildings who want to evict low-income tenants and stop accepting rent subsidies from the federal government.

The 237 apartments are in South Los Angeles, Sun Valley and Venice. Affordable-housing advocates say the property owners broke state and federal laws by not giving tenants proper notice of the evictions.

On Tuesday the City Council directed the city attorney to investigate ways, such as a lawsuit, to prevent the evictions.
