Goulash: There’s a Hungarian restaurant on Ventura in Studio City called Hortabagy. I order the chicken paprikash and the stuffed cabbage. People might not normally think to go to a Hungarian place, but it’s really good. Hungarian food is super-hearty. It’s just a bunch of cabbage, dumplings, goulash, sauces and stews, and it’s super-satisfying. For some reason, you always have your choice between Japanese or Thai or Mexican every night out here, but there’s not enough of that German and Hungarian and Eastern European stuff. People ought to get more with that. My step-grandfather is Hungarian, full-blooded, and he would cook goulash, chicken paprikash and all these layered casseroles, and the stuff was so good that when I finally found a place out here, I started going to it. I guess when you are doing Hungarian food, you better be good.

No More Stand-Up, Thank You: I don’t like supporting the arts. But I guess I should mention the Acme Comedy Theater on La Brea, which is a good place to go for a laugh. I used to work at Acme. They do sketch comedy. It’s like the Groundlings. They are good people and it’s a good show. Though I loathe going to stand-up shows. I never go to plays. I never go to anything. I did enough of it when I was sort of starting out. Now that I get paid, I don’t want to do it. People are always like, “Don’t you miss the stage, those 99-seat theaters with the intimate audience and the freedom to express?” and I’m like, “No, I want my money.”

The Cheapest Beer: I have always been into Trader Joe’s. Everything is good there and everything is cheap there. The thing that I don’t understand is that I can go to Trader Joe’s and buy a six-pack of Dos Equis for $3.99, and then I go into some big market and it’s $7.99. There used to be just one Trader Joe’s in Sherman Oaks like 15 years ago, and it was cheaper. They’ve got all that good dried fruit, nuts, cheeses and meats. If you don’t shop there, you’re an idiot. That’s what I’d say about Trader Joe’s.

The Model Airplane Crowd: I like to fly model airplanes over at the Van Nuys model airplane airport in the Sepulveda Basin. It’s embarrassing, but I usually go over there by myself or I’ll recruit some friends to go with me. I have like 20 planes, Spitfires and Mustangs, and I have had some midair collisions. The people who hang out there are nice guys for the most part, but it’s the kind of guys you’d picture out there, not a bunch of guys who look like Lorenzo Lamas with hot girls sitting on the back of their fully dressed hog waiting for them to finish landing their Cessna. It’s more guys who live the simple life. They’re not on the Riviera. I am definitely the biggest celebrity at this place.
