From Times Staff and Wire Reports

The state Department of Health Services will hold a breast and cervical cancer educational program aimed at minorities tonight at St. Paul’s Baptist Church.

Federal statistics show that breast and cervical cancer survival rates for African American women are notably lower than for white women.

The Witness Project education campaign, one of only three such programs in California, comes to the St. Paul’s auditorium tonight from 6:30 to 8:30. The church is at 1354 South C St.

Volunteer guest speakers are needed for the program. An all-day training session for volunteers will be held at St. Paul’s on Saturday.

For further information or to register for training, call June English, a senior health educator, at 677-5267.
