Police have arrested a 27-year-old man they suspect of kidnapping a woman from her east Ventura bedroom and sexually assaulting her before she escaped from him in Los Angeles.

Marcus Brent Fields was found in a Pasadena motel room, police said Friday. Bail was set at $250,000 as he awaited transfer from the Los Angeles County Jail to Ventura.

At about 1 a.m. on June 27, Fields slipped into the 52-year-old woman’s Twin Rivers Circle home through an unlocked sliding glass door, police said. Before ordering her into the car, police said, Fields told the woman and her fiance that he had a gun.

In Oxnard, he sexually assaulted the woman, according to investigators. Forcing her to withdraw cash from an ATM, he drove the woman to the Hollywood area, authorities said. They said the woman was still in her nightgown when she escaped by flagging down a passing California Highway Patrol cruiser after Fields left the car for coffee.

Fields was identified with the help of tips from people who recognized a composite drawing that had been released to the media, police said. His arrest Thursday, a joint effort by Ventura and Pasadena police, took place without incident, authorities said.
