U.S.-Iran Relations

Although I understand there is a lot of history with our relationship with Iran, we should be looking forward rather than backward in that relationship (“In Afghanistan, Iranian Chides U.S.,” Aug. 14). It looks to me that of all the Islamic countries in the world, Iran is one of the few that espouses any sense of democratic principles. I remember the hostage crisis of 23 years ago. I know the Iranians oppose U.S. support for Israel and that they remember our support of the shah before their revolution. I really believe we need to focus on our common interests rather than our differences.
