Twin Girl Recovering From 3rd Operation
A 1-year-old Guatemalan girl who was surgically separated from her sister earlier this month was listed in serious condition Friday as she recovered from a third operation to remove blood accumulated on her brain.
Maria Teresa Quiej Alvarez remained on a ventilator but was being eased off sedation, UCLA Medical Center spokeswoman Roxanne Moster said.
Maria Teresa underwent a 90-minute operation Thursday to remove the last of the blood that had collected on her brain as a result of the Aug. 6 surgery to separate her from her twin, Maria de Jesus, who also is improving.
