Mill Valley’s original Andrew Carnegie library, built almost a century ago for perhaps $6,000, is selling for the very up-to-date price of $3.25 million. The 1911 building was remodeled in the early 1970s into a 4,500-square-foot home. The downtown brick building comes complete with authentic bits of the past in a contemporary setting.

Chris Frederiksen bought the old library in 1984 and owns it with his wife, Tara Crawford. “It definitely has the feel of an old library,” she said. “We have had a lot of people try to return books here over the years.”
