Park to Be Dedicated in Former Mayor’s Honor
A community celebration will be held Sept. 7 to dedicate a new park in honor of Delores Day, Fillmore’s first female mayor.
The nearly five-acre park, at 5th Street and Goodenough Road, is part of a 10.8-acre parcel donated to the city by Griffin Industries, which built the 135-home Hometown housing development. The remainder of the land is the site of a future elementary school.
Day, 81, was a member of the Fillmore City Council from 1970 to 1990 and served as mayor five times, beginning in 1977.
“She championed so many improvements for Fillmore, and she was truly a servant of the public,” said Mayor Pro Tem Linda Brewster.
Hot dogs, popcorn, soda and other refreshments will be available at the 11 a.m. dedication. For more information, call 524-3701.
