Tonight at 7:30 p.m., urban historian Kazys Varnelis will give a talk titled “Towers of Concentration, Lines of Growth; How Telcom Hotels and Fiber Optic Lines Shape the Contemporary City.” The event is sponsored by the Center for Land Use Interpretation, a research organization with an office at 9331 Venice Blvd., Culver City. Varnelis’ presentation is in conjunction with “One Wilshire: Telco Hotel Central,” an exhibit of still and moving images of the Pacific Coast’s telecommunications hub. * On Friday, Austrian architectural photographer Gerald Zugmann will talk about his new exhibition catalog, “Gerald Zugmann: Blue Universe” (Hatje Cantz Publishers, 2002, $39), from 6 to 8 p.m. at the MAK Center for Art and Architecture. The book serves as a companion to his traveling exhibition, which continues through Sept. 8 at the center. There is no admission charge for the book signing.
