Time for Cool-Season Veggies

Replace summer’s edibles with cool-season crops such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower and lettuce. All are easy to start in flats from seed that can be transplanted. You can also plant beet, carrot, endive, leek, onion, potato, radish, Swiss chard and turnip.

* Africa is the theme of the 19th annual succulents symposium from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Huntington Botanical Gardens, 1151 Oxford Road, San Marino. Tours, plant sale and a silent auction will be offered. Lunch is included in the $70 registration fee. To register call (626) 405-3504.
