Check Him Out, a multiple-stakes winner, has likely run his final race.

Owned by John Andreini, Zory Kuzyk and trainer Blane Schvaneveldt, Check Him Out was scratched out of the third and final trial for the $163,450 Southern California Derby on Saturday night.

Schvaneveldt said there was nothing wrong with the horse, but he didn’t want to take any risks because the horse’s career is probably over. Check Him Out has won nine of 18 and earned more than $418,000.

In his absence, Harley Man, the winner of the El Primero Del Ano Derby this year, was the fastest qualifier for the Southern California Derby, which will be run on Dec. 15. He completed the 400 yards in 19.675 seconds. Harley Man is owned by Felix Gonzalez and trained by Adan Farias.
