SEC Candidates Told to Insist on Full Funding

Candidates for chairmanship of the Securities and Exchange Commission should demand a White House pledge to support the 77% budget increase sought by Congress, SEC Commissioner Harvey Goldschmid said.

The Democrat said the increase is needed for the SEC to fulfill its duties, which include a record number of investigations of accounting irregularities at Enron Corp., WorldCom Inc. and other companies.
