What review?

Share

Robert Hilburn’s review of Mariah Carey’s “Charmbracelet” (“Searching Hard for Signs of Life in Carey’s Music,” Dec. 1) is quite easily one of the worst reviews I’ve ever read and not just because of his perception of the album. Not only does he fail to comment on the actual songs, the content, the music, but he mentions one song from the entire album. How was her voice? Is this an R&B; album? Is this a country album? How’s the production?

Oh, I’m sorry, I must have been mistaken and led to believe this was a “review” of the actual album and not of Ms. Carey herself. Hilburn’s bias toward her is apparent in the second sentence of the “review.”

But at least he felt something toward Ms. Carey and her music. I felt nothing from reading Hilburn’s review except a distaste for this type of so-called journalism, and knowing that there is a nice guitar solo from the album “Charmbracelet.”
