At least 10 people were injured Saturday night when two cars of an excursion train overturned in southeastern Indiana about 30 miles northwest of Cincinnati, Indiana state police reported.

A spokesman at the Fayette Memorial Hospital in Connersville said all of the injured were treated and released, except a teenager who was admitted in fair condition.

State Trooper Eric Downey said the injured were among about 500 passengers aboard the locomotive-powered train returning from a holiday shopping excursion to the historic community of Metamora, Ind., about 16 miles south of Connersville.

The train was returning to Connersville from a late afternoon run to Metamora on one of the excursion trips operated by the Whitewater Valley Railroad every weekend before Christmas. The visitors have three hours to shop in Metamora before the return trip.

Officials of the railroad declined to comment about how the accident occurred, saying that information would not be available until the National Transportation Safety Board completes its investigation of the accident.
