Where the stars once gathered

Sam Goldwyn, the cantankerous and independent producer of such Oscar-winning films as “The Best Years of Our Lives” (1946) and such big-budget movie-musicals as “Guys and Dolls” (1955) and “Porgy and Bess” (1959), owned this house in the late ‘20s, after he married actress Frances Howard.

Goldwyn often played cards with Clark Gable in the pool house cabana while a young Judy Garland played poolside. Errol Flynn stayed late enough to be put up in a guest room near an upstairs hideaway where Goldwyn read scripts.

The home was host to nearly every major Hollywood player in the Golden Age of Hollywood.

About this house: Judson Rothschild, a real estate developer and longtime Beverly Hills resident, and Timothy Hart, a former advertising executive, bought this neo-classic 1916 house to save it. They outbid another developer who planned to demolish the house. They restored it and added modern amenities, particularly in the kitchen and bathrooms.
