Bush’s Bonuses
Re “White House Including Political Appointees in Bonus Program,” Dec. 5: “Good work is good work,” White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said, and that good work by the federal government’s employees, all of whom are paid by the taxpayers, should be rewarded. All, it would seem, except for the ordinary, nonappointed personnel who do the daily work but have had their raises limited to 3.1% because of the “severe budget crunch.” Conveniently for President Bush and company, this edict came after the elections.
