Moscow Urges Iraq to Open Talks on Oil Deal

From Times Wire Reports

Russia’s foreign minister demanded that Baghdad open talks to resolve a dispute over a canceled contract with Russia’s largest oil company.

Foreign Minister Igor S. Ivanov said he had sent a “toughly worded” message requesting that Iraq reconsider its decision, Interfax news agency reported.

Iraq told Lukoil last week that it was breaking its contract to develop the West Qurnah field. Moscow says the move was retaliation for Russia’s support for U.N. weapons inspections.
