Beanbag Victim to Get $2.5 Million
The Los Angeles City Council approved $4 million in lawsuit settlements Tuesday, including $2.5 million to a former Westlake Village woman who lost an eye after a Los Angeles police officer shot her with a beanbag projectile because he mistakenly thought she was reaching for a weapon.
Annette Amoroso, 40, lost an eye in the Nov. 27, 2000, incident.
“Substantial physical harm was done to this individual and [the settlement] is justified,” said City Councilman Nate Holden.
Amoroso, a onetime hairdresser and a mother of four, has since moved to Hawaii.
