Deadlocked Robles Jurors Will Keep at It
A judge Wednesday ordered jurors in the criminal trial of South Gate Treasurer Albert Robles to keep deliberating after they reported being deadlocked on all seven felony counts.
Robles, 37, is charged with threatening to kill two state legislators, a political consultant and a South Gate police lieutenant. The 10-man, two-woman jury, after five hours of deliberations, said they had taken about 13 ballots and had failed to reach a verdict. All of the votes were consistent except for one, they said.
Superior Court Judge John A. Torribio told the jurors to return this morning after both prosecutors and defense attorneys requested that the panel keep deliberating.
Torribio refused a request from Robles’ attorney, Thomas Brown, for a vote count. He said he would ask for such information only if he declares a mistrial.
