Winnie Mandela Voted Into Party Committee
From Times Wire Reports
The beleaguered ex-wife of former President Nelson Mandela made another political comeback when the country’s ruling African National Congress reelected her to the top tier of party officials.
Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, who faces fraud charges, got the sixth-highest number of votes for the 60-member executive committee. In 1991, she was convicted of kidnapping and assault.
Madikizela-Mandela remains popular with poor urban blacks who see her as the mother of the struggle against apartheid.
