State Looking to Usher Prostitutes Indoors

From Times Wire Reports

Italy’s conservative government has unveiled plans to crack down on prostitution, saying it wants to sweep streetwalkers out of public view.

Under the bill, which has to be approved by Parliament, prostitutes caught soliciting in public would face on-the-spot fines for a first offense, and fines of up to $1,000 and three months in jail if caught again. Their clients also could be fined.

But women would be allowed to work in “cooperatives” as long as no more than two work in one apartment and the building’s other tenants don’t object.
