INS Finally Beginning to Enforce Immigration Laws

Share

Re “Hundreds Are Detained After Visits to INS,” Dec. 19: I believe these people have no fundamental civil rights. They have entered our country illegally and should be deported to where they came from. They are crying about how badly they are being treated in our country; let them go back to their own country and ask for their civil rights. Anyone who enters this country illegally takes a chance at being detained. You are not supposed to be here illegally and then apply for legal status. It’s time for this country to start putting its citizens first and foremost. Those at the Immigration and Naturalization Service are finally doing their job and protecting the citizens of this country. Unfortunately, it took Sept. 11 for them to get off their behinds.

The indiscriminate arrest of Middle Eastern immigrants who tried to cooperate with the government request to register at INS facilities is a repugnant act that offends our democracy. Let us not forget this in upcoming elections.

The INS states that this action is to help with its accountability of immigrants who lack green cards? Who are they kidding? If that was its true intention, then it should be requiring all immigrants to comply with this regulation. If terrorism is its true concern, which it isn’t, then Saudi Arabia should have been first on the list. After the registering of all these men, what next? Registering the women and children from these countries? Deportation? ID tags? Maybe camps a la Manzanar? Such a nice 60-year-old flashback.

It seems to me that the only people complaining are the ones who have to register. Kudos to the INS for at last starting enforcement of our immigration laws. Poll after poll shows that over 60% of Americans want immigration reduced. It is time to deport these people who are here illegally. When will the INS require other foreigners to register? The sooner the better!
