Our Lady of the Angels Plans Mass for Peace
In another first in a year of firsts for the new Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, a special New Year’s Eve service will be held to pray for peace in the world and to remember friends, family members and loved ones who died during 2002.
Cardinal Roger M. Mahony, archbishop of Los Angeles, will be the celebrant at the 9 p.m. Mass. He said worshipers will be invited to light a candle in memory of those who died.
“This particular Mass will be a way to thank God for the year just completed, with its joys and sorrows, and to pray especially for blessing and graces in the new year, that there be peace in our community and our world,” Mahony said.
Upwards of 16,000 worshippers attended this week’s Christmas Masses at the cathedral, which was dedicated in September.
