Lowering DVD Prices May Curb Piracy
If the motion picture industry wants to really combat illegal DVD copying, I’d suggest that they take a cue from what happened to the music industry (“Sellers of Pirated DVDs Targeted,” Dec. 11): If you charge too much for a legally made product, it only creates demand for an illegal product.
The music industry will go to its grave believing it can charge $18.99 for a disc that any kid on a computer can make for 20 cents. And now look where they are.
DVDs should have a suggested retail price of $10, not $29.99 or even $19.99. They can be made for around a dollar apiece by the industry. Want to see piracy stop? Reduce the demand by reducing the prices.
The public is tired of being ripped off by greedy businesses.
