Police Hunt 2 in Robbery, Carjacking
Police were searching Saturday night for two hitchhikers who carjacked a man at gunpoint in Oxnard, stole his credit card and crashed his car a few miles away in Ventura.
Shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday, Alfredo Aguayo picked up the hitchhikers on the Ventura Freeway near Rose Avenue. Once inside the car, the men tied up Aguayo’s hands and put him in the back seat, police said.
The hitchhikers drove to an automated teller machine, where they unsuccessfully tried to withdraw money from Aguayo’s bank account, police said.
The hitchhikers then drove to Ventura, where they crashed the car into a light pole on Seaward Avenue before fleeing on foot. Aguayo freed himself and called police. He was treated for minor injuries from the car crash.
The hitchhikers were described as Latino and in their 20s. One is about 6 feet, 180 to 190 pounds and dark skinned. The other is about 5 feet 5 and 130 to 140 pounds.
