OpenTV Files Suit Against Rival Liberate

Share

OpenTV of Mountain View, Calif., the leading supplier of interactive TV software for satellite and cable TV systems, sued rival Liberate Technologies of San Carlos, Calif., for patent infringement, claiming that Liberate violated two of its key patents.

The lawsuit, which seeks an injunction and unspecified monetary damages, accuses Liberate of infringing patents regarding the transmission and control of interactive TV programs that OpenTV earned in 1996 and 1998.

Mitchell Kertzman, Liberate’s chief executive, rejected OpenTV’s accusations. The suit was filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco.
