Red Sox, DiSarcina Agree to Deal

Former Angel shortstop Gary DiSarcina, sidelined nearly two seasons after shoulder surgery, agreed Friday to a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox.

DiSarcina played all nine of his major league seasons with the Angels, but was sidelined since early May 2000 after playing only 12 games that year.

Major league baseball had another legal loss in Minnesota when a judge ordered the Twins and the commissioner’s office to turn over contraction-related documents to the Metrodome’s operator within 60 days.

Hennepin County District Judge Harry Seymour Crump ruled in favor of the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission, which hopes to use the internal baseball documents to build a case that would keep the Twins in town beyond the 2002 season.

Minnesota pitcher Rick Reed won’t play for the Twins this season and will exercise his right to become a free agent if the team doesn’t trade him by March 15, his agent, Phil Tannenbaum, said.... Frank Catalanotto, who batted .330 in 133 games last season, agreed to a one-year, $2.3-million contract with the Texas Rangers and avoided salary arbitration.... Tampa Bay pitcher Esteban Yan lost his salary arbitration case and will make $1.5 million this year instead of $2.4 million.... Atlanta Brave shortstop Rafael Furcal is actually 23, two years older than thought, it was revealed after he experienced visa problems in his native Dominican Republic.
