Test Rules Out Panel Glitch in Carnahan Crash
A test by federal aviation officials showed an airplane instrument panel part did not malfunction in the crash that killed Gov. Mel Carnahan, his son and a campaign aide.
A lawyer in the family’s wrongful death lawsuit questioned the test’s accuracy.
Carnahan, his son Randy, and campaign aide Chris Sifford were killed when the plane piloted by Randy Carnahan went down south of St. Louis on a stormy night in October 2000.
Plaintiffs in the wrongful death lawsuit blame the crash on a malfunctioning vacuum pump and manifold system that powered the airplane’s instruments.
