AT&T; Corp., whose cable-television business is being acquired by Comcast Corp., said it’s cutting about 500 jobs at that unit’s headquarters to pare costs.

AT&T; Broadband, the biggest U.S. cable provider, began notifying workers Tuesday, spokesman Andrew Johnson said. About 12% of the company’s Englewood, Colo., work force of 4,400 will be fired or transferred. AT&T; shares fell 62 cents to $14.18 on the New York Stock Exchange.

AT&T; job cuts--A headline in Wednesday’s Business section incorrectly stated AT&T; was cutting jobs in its wireless unit. The job cuts are in its cable-television business. AT&T; Wireless is not a unit of AT&T; it was spun off last year.
