For Stranded Monorail Passengers, It’s a Stalled, Stalled World

A Disneyland monorail stalled on a 25-foot-high track Thursday, briefly stranding about 65 passengers, park officials said.

The guests were led to the ground by firefighters, and no injuries were reported, Disneyland spokesman Ray Gomez said.

An Anaheim fire-and-rescue crew called to the theme park about 2:30 p.m. used three ladders to take passengers one by one from the train, which stopped along a tree-lined path near the It’s a Small World ride in the park’s northeast corner.

“They all seemed very calm,” Fire Department spokeswoman Maria Sabol said of the guests.

Gomez said the electric-powered monorail has lost power before, though such incidents are uncommon. The cause of Thursday’s outage had not been determined, he said, and no other park attractions were affected.

The Monorail, which carries passengers on circuits through the Disneyland complex, opened in June 1959 and is continually upgraded, Gomez said.
