District, Teachers Reach Impasse on Contract
The Los Alamitos Unified School District and its teachers union have reached an impasse in their labor negotiations and will require a mediator, something that has not happened in the district in more than a decade, union and school officials said Friday.
Teachers complain that the district’s proposal to raise salaries by 1% for the current fiscal year will be offset by another proposal to raise the employees’ contributions to health-and-welfare benefits by $400,000.
District officials say Los Alamitos teachers will remain among the highest paid in Orange County under their plan.
The two sides will meet with a state mediator Monday.
