Third of High Schoolers Said to Be Binge Drinkers
Nearly a third of high school students say they binge drink at least once a month, according to a new report by an advocacy group.
The government estimates underage drinkers account for 11.4% of all alcohol consumed in the United States.
“Underage drinking has reached epidemic proportions in America,” said Joseph Califano Jr., president of the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University, which issued the report in Washington.
Califano’s group also asserted that young people ages 12 to 20 accounted for 25% of all alcoholic beverages consumed in the country.
