Joint Funeral Set for 2 Teens

Joint viewings and funeral services have been planned for two Westlake High School students who were killed last week when their car spun out of control and slammed into a brick wall.

There will be open casket viewings from 1 to 5 p.m. today for Kenneth Marshall Glass and Jordan Alexander Bass at Pierce Bros. Valley Oaks Mortuary in Westlake Village.

A double funeral for the two 16-year-olds will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village.

The public is invited to both services, and several hundred high school students are expected to attend.

“This is a tightknit community, and we are all grieving,” funeral director Victoria Burke said.

Kenneth and Jordan, both of Westlake Village, died at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 1 a.m. Friday on Westlake Boulevard near Hillcrest Drive.

The cause remains under investigation, but excessive speed was a factor, Ventura County sheriff’s authorities have said.

Two passengers in the station wagon driven by Kenneth survived.

Joshua Kuai, 16, of Westlake Village was in good condition Monday at UCLA Medical Center. Jenae Chu, 16, of Thousand Oaks was being treated for fractures at a Woodland Hills hospital. Her condition was not available.

“The families decided to have joint funerals because the boys shared so many of the same friends,” Burke said.

Burke said the families opted to open the services to the public as a way to advocate safe driving.

Kenneth was a member of the Westlake High School varsity basketball team, and Jordan was an avid golfer who hoped to play competitively at UCLA.

Authorities have said Jordan was wearing a seat belt, but they are unsure whether Kenneth or the other passengers were.
