Former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani is joining the lucrative speaking circuit and will command up to $100,000 per engagement by some estimates.

Giuliani is represented by the Washington Speakers Bureau, whose clients include Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, Bob Dole and Elizabeth Hanford Dole, along with Giuliani’s former police and fire commissioners.

Giuliani, who served eight years as mayor, was named Time magazine’s person of the year after his stewardship of the grief-torn city following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

He left for a Florida vacation with his girlfriend, Judith Nathan, after swearing in his successor, Michael R. Bloomberg, early Jan. 1.

He was scheduled to speak Thursday before General Electric executives at a Boca Raton club, according to Gary Sheffer, a spokesman for GE. Sheffer would not say what Giuliani was being paid or what he was expected to talk about. The event is private.

Experts have estimated that Giuliani could make as much as $100,000 per engagement. The speakers bureau did not return a call seeking comment.

Once he returns to New York, Giuliani is also expected to set up an office for his new consulting firm and complete plans for the Rudolph W. Giuliani Center for Urban Affairs. The center is expected to serve as a think tank but also to create a Giuliani library, which will include documents from his time in office.

While presidential libraries are common--Bill Clinton’s is being built in Little Rock, Ark., Ronald Reagan’s is in Simi Valley, Calif.--a library focusing on one mayor’s administration is not.

Giuliani also has a $3-million deal with Talk Miramax to write two books: an autobiography and a book on management issues.
