Last year: Brad Faxon led wire to wire, beating Tom Lehman by four strokes. Faxon had a 20-under 260 total to tie the record score at Waialae. John Huston shot a 28-under 260 in 1998 when the course played to a par of 72.
Last week: Sergio Garcia won the season-opening Mercedes Championship at Kapalua, beating David Toms with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff. The Spaniard, who turned 22 Wednesday, closed with a nine-under 64. He has three victories in his last 11 tour starts.
Notes: Tiger Woods is skipping the tournament to play in New Zealand. ... Garcia and Toms are in the field along with Lehman, Huston, Fred Couples, Davis Love III, Jesper Parnevik and Robert Allenby. ... The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic is next week in La Quinta, followed by the Phoenix Open.
