Dell Names Head of Consulting Services

Dell Computer Corp., the largest seller of personal computers, named Jeffrey M. Lynn, 52, to lead the company’s consulting services after Lynn left a similar position at rival Compaq Computer Corp.

Lynn’s departure is not indicative of defections from Compaq’s executive ranks, said Compaq Executive Vice President Michael Winkler.

Dell, like Compaq, has been trying to sell more servers, storage devices and services, which are more profitable than PCs.

Dell stock closed down 82 cents a share to $28.18 on Nasdaq.
