2 More Bodies Found in Castaic Lake

Divers pulled two bodies from Castaic Lake on Friday, but were unable to retrieve the other body that has been missing since a high-powered family boat capsized a week ago.

Sheriff’s Department officials identified the two recovered as Steve Coulombe and Charles Wiseman. The body of Nelson Brinkman has not been found. Ken Lane, 41, of La Crescenta, was found dead immediately after the accident.

Wiseman’s body was retrieved Friday afternoon from an area about half a mile from the wreckage and 250 feet beneath the surface. Coulombe’s body was recovered at 7:40 p.m.

Gary Allen, vice president of Friends of Castaic and a close friend of Wiseman, said he was with authorities when the discoveries were made.

“It was a good day today,” Allen said. “No more ifs, ands or buts. Everybody’s going to take a big sigh of relief tonight and get a good night’s sleep. It brings a little peace knowing everybody’s going to be recovered.”

The bodies were found with the aid of a robotic sonar device brought from Canada to help a team of volunteer divers. Homicide detectives in helicopters had tried to re-create the accident visually, working to determine why the twin-engine speedboat flipped and sank.

Friends and co-workers kept vigil on a bluff overlooking the lake Friday as the divers made several attempts.

Lane and Brinkman worked for Coulombe’s Agua Dulce-based boat design and manufacturing firm, High Torque Marine, and were experienced racers.

They were testing the unfinished luxury craft when, witnesses say, it tilted left and rolled over. Wiseman, a concrete subcontractor, was a High Torque Marine customer and boat enthusiast.
