Bush Plans More Aid for Minority Colleges
President Bush will propose boosting federal support for historically black and Latino colleges in next year’s budget, reaching out to minorities as the nation honors Martin Luther King Jr., the administration said.
The United States celebrates the slain civil rights leader today when Bush hosts a White House ceremony to commemorate King’s life.
Education Secretary Rod Paige announced that Bush’s budget blueprint will include more than $350 million for the colleges and universities--an increase of more than $12 million. Bush has pledged to increase the funding by 30% from 2001 to 2005.
