Patrick Percin scored in the 51st minute and Martinique upset Trinidad and Tobago, 1-0, Tuesday in the Orange Bowl at Miami to advance to the Gold Cup quarterfinals.

Jean-Victor Lavril set up the goal, feeding Percin just outside the area.

Percin then dribbled inside the box, eluded two defenders and blasted a shot that beat goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.

Trinidad, which had a man advantage after the ejection of Marcel Gibon in the 40th minute, could not find the equalizer.

Martinique, which finished with a 1-1 record and three points in the first round, placed second in Group C behind Costa Rica.

Martinique will play Group D winner Canada in the quarterfinals.

Martinique nearly grabbed the lead in the first half.

But Fabrice Reuperne’s free kick deflected off the left post.

In the 20th minute, Loic Lupon found a loose ball and dribbled inside the penalty box, but his chip shot sailed over Hislop’s crossbar.

Trinidad began finding space later in the first half.

In the 34th minute, midfielder Angus Eve’s shot went high over the crossbar.

Ecuador 2, Canada 0--Alex Aguinaga scored twice at Miami, including once on a penalty kick, but Ecuador failed to advance to the quarterfinals following a three-way tie in Group D.

Ecuador, Canada and Haiti tied for first place with one victory, one loss, two goals for and two goals against.

After a blind draw to determine the final placings in the group, Ecuador was the odd team out.

Canada came out in first, followed by Haiti.
