Militant Gets 14 Years for Role in Omagh Blast

A veteran anti-British militant was sent to prison for 14 years for helping in the deadliest bombing in Northern Ireland’s history, a sentence applauded in court by relatives of the victims.
Colm Murphy, 50, stood quietly as the verdict was handed down by the three judges of the Special Criminal Court in Dublin, Ireland.
The car bombing Aug. 15, 1998, killed 29 people and wounded more than 200 in Omagh, Northern Ireland.
The judges accepted evidence that Murphy played only a supporting role in the attack.
