Jordan’s 41 Carry Wizards Over Suns

Michael Jordan scored 41 points, giving him consecutive games with 40 points or more, and the Washington Wizards defeated the Phoenix Suns, 112-102, Saturday night at Washington.

Jordan, 38, followed up his 40-point game against Cleveland Thursday with a 17-for-30 performance in 40 minutes. He scored 14 points in the second quarter.

“We offered very little resistance,” Phoenix Coach Scott Skiles said. “He pretty much did what he wanted to. ... We played him like we were a little scared of him.”

Stephon Marbury led the Suns with 25 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.

Sacramento 114, Utah 90--Peja Stojakovic scored 25 points, and Chris Webber had 19 points and 10 rebounds for Sacramento at Salt Lake City.

Karl Malone had 17 points and 10 rebounds but couldn’t prevent Utah’s fifth loss in the last six games.

New York 129, Milwaukee 127--Latrell Sprewell scored 31 of his 48 points in the fourth quarter and the first overtime, and the Knicks survived in double overtime at Milwaukee to win their third in a row.

Sprewell tied a Knick record by making nine three-point baskets.

Glenn Robinson scored 38 points for the Bucks, and Anthony Mason had 22 points and 18 rebounds.

Allan Houston scored 34 points for the Knicks.

Minnesota 103, Atlanta 80--Kevin Garnett scored 20 to lift the Timberwolves at Minneapolis.

Terrell Brandon had 14 points and 12 assists for Minnesota.

Seattle 95, Indiana 86--Gary Payton scored 27 points and Seattle held the Pacers to one field goal over the final seven minutes at Indianapolis.

Boston 108, Cleveland 101--Antoine Walker scored 31 points at Cleveland and the Celtics handed the Cavaliers their 12th consecutive defeat.

Houston 111, Charlotte 104--Steve Francis scored 30 points, including four free throws in the final 42 seconds of overtime, at Charlotte, N.C.

Cutino Mobley had 27 points for Houston. Charlotte’s Baron Davis had 34 points and 11 assists.

Cleveland activated center Michael Doleac, who broke an ankle in November, from the injured list and put rookie guard Jeff Trepagnier, from USC, on the injured list because of knee tendinitis.

Chicago 95, Memphis 92--Ron Artest hit the go-ahead basket in the final 90 seconds at Chicago. Brad Miller tied his career high with 32 points for the Bulls.

Pau Gasol scored 26 points for Memphis.

Chicago put starting guards Ron Mercer and Greg Anthony on the injured list and activated guard A.J. Guyton and center Dalibor Bagaric.

Mercer sprained a knee ligament Tuesday. Anthony has a partial tear in his right Achilles’ tendon.

Miami 90, New Jersey 77--Alonzo Mourning scored 23 points at Miami and the Heat won for the seventh time in eight games.

Miami’s Eddie Jones scored 20 points, giving him at least 20 in six consecutive games.

San Antonio 90, Golden State 82--Tim Duncan scored 20 points and David Robinson had 12 points and seven blocked shots for San Antonio at Oakland.
